I've just started to use USB-2 and am *very* impressed; when you have a true USB-2 chain, i.e. a port either built into the motherboard or on a specific card, USB-2 hubs (if necessary) and true USB-2 devices, the speeds are a wonderful improvement. Can't really tell USB-2 and Firewire apart. USB-2 is supposed to have the edge but in Real World use it's impossible to see the diff.

Obviously, if there's anything standard USB 1.1 in the chain then the speed cannot exceed the normal (v e r y s l o w) USB we all hate...

My laptop has USB 2 but no firewire, however, I can purchase a 3 port non
powered PCMCIA adaptor for 29.00. Does anybody know whether or not a
firewire or USB 2 card reader will substantially speed up the time necessary
to copy files from the card to hard disk?
