Hi everybody- just got the Minolta 5400 today through Jessops and wanted to
let you know that I paid 529 - pricematch from Jessops with
www.warehouseexpress.com . The interesting point is (apart from that Jessops
seems to be the first one that has them in stock???) that normally Jessops
would not really pricematch if the other company hasn't got it in stock
yet -which was the case with warehouseexpress, but seemed to be happy with
the fact that warehouse had ordered them and Minolta had already dispatched
them. So you can tell your local Jessops about my case. The other thing (I
had no real chance to check the scanner out yet) is and I am replying to
somebody a couple of days ago who was concerned with the grain reduction-
that it seems sofar that as soon as you use ICE the grain reduction filter
is automatically switched on- so it seems you can't use one without the
other. But I will let you know more the next days- the pixel polish can not
be used when in 16bit mode- I anyhow think it is more useful to use the
photoshop tools for this, but thought I let you know. Kodakchrome films or
traditional black and white films can not be used with ICE (no idea how this
is with other scanners?)
As soon as I know more (the file size of around 206 mb in 16 bit mode or
half in 8 bit is indeed very impressive...) I let you know.
Bye for now
