Quite right but it doesn't save a lot of space, it's slow to open & save & many libraries & agencies won't take them.


You can get far more space saving by using the free lossless version of jpeg2000 but the format is not yet widely accepted so while it'll be fine for your own storage you may need to convert before sending..
