This is a bit of a long shot but...

What shutter speed are you using? Are you firing on first or second curtain
sync? I assume when you refer to 'bottom of the frame' you have the camera
in landscape position. The 'official' top sync speed of the 1Ds is 1/250 but
in reality with studio flash (well my Elinchrom anyway) it's 1/200 or a bit
slower. Anything faster causes a degree of black-out as the second curtain
runs. However this is not so much roll-off as dead obvious vignette along
the bottom (longest dimension) of the chip.
