This relates to the issue that some firewire peripherals need power from the firewire connected laptop and just about all Intel PC laptop have 4 pin (unpowered) firewire (IEEE1304) but 6 pin firewire is what provides said power. Good news (for some) - Trust now sell a "firewire video notebook kit" which is a PC-Card with 3 x 6 Pin firewire ports. Retail appears to be about 50 quid (UK pounds).
