Paul, I'm currently using 5 1160s, some of which have been serviced - new
heads - etc and i had a hell of a job getting them to work. The answer was
to use carts instead of a cis. A CIS can cause breathing problems that cause
banding and apparent clogs. To test it, take the cis out, run a flush cart
and then install oem inks in carts. Do the usual setup procedures and see if
it is ok. It may work.
CIS units can, overtime, cause problems for a number of reasons. If you look
at the lines you'll see a product number on them. If you do a google, you'll
find these are auto parts and that the tubes are slightly porous. Also the
cis cart heads can build up a sludge which affects inkflow and breathing. As
an example: I once had 4 cis units that I needed to replace the cis cart
heads on, so I took them off and tried to flush the lines with a syringe,
some of the lines were so solid that it took all my force with a syringe to
clear them, and I'd been getting good head checks but banding! Having sorted
this out I put new cis cart heads on primed with the same ink and tried all
the cis units in the same printer - they all printed a different density.
Now I don't use cis units.
