Thank you for your timely warning. I had got as far as 'Now Restart your computer' when I read your message. I read the notes on the site you mentioned, and noted the comments on fixes, so took the life of my PowerBook in my hands. Pressed 'Restart' and waited...

No, seriously, you'll be pleased to know all is well! I naturally I verified permissions and did the fsck routine before doing anything in anger - my ADSL and Airport both work, but perhaps that is running slow, but this was happening before sometimes, so may be concidental, I had not checked this out first so cannot be absolutely sure.
I did the update via the desktop as opposed to by doing it directly from Software Update. From past experience I do suggest that when a combo updater is available choose this option, and one exists for this build at the Apple site I am told.
