I've just bought one too, and although I don't have this problem with the cards (it seems quite happy with anything I put in it, including a small one from my wife's Ixus, and those from my Coolpix 990 and D1), I'm not sure about the auto focus. When I select full magnification with the top right button on the rear, the image looks very soft.
I believe someone had a similar focus problem with a number of bodies a few months back, but I can't find the postings: was it one of the Simons on the list?
