As the people using the site are going to want to download these images
for printing you cannot presume 72 dpi as that is for screen purposes.

If they are 34Mb at the moment they are probably about 3,500 pixels
square unless they are 34MB jpgs. Anyway you want to get the file size
down for downloading purposes so compress them to about 80% jpg quality
and try scaling them to about 2,500 pixels square.
That will get them to about 500k each which would be good for
downloading but still print well to A4.

You can write an action to do this in Photoshop.
