As Paul said, it's a pretty simple matter to get the data off of a laptop hard drive, provided the drive was not damaged when the computer went down. You can get an adapter and just hook it up to a regular computer like any other IDE hard drive. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, any computer repair shop or consultant should be able to do it. It's not rocket science (like doing data recovery on a damaged drive).
