I tried your steps with an image now, and I think it�s faster and easier if, instead of all of this: 1- Load the Luminosity channel as a selection, 2- Save this selection as an alpha channel, 3- Increase contrast (levels ou curves), 4- Load this channel as selection, 5- Apply Unsharp mask as you wish.
