I thought I would share this experience with you all regarding Nikon
(manufacturer of Digital cameras and Scanners).

I heard (I think on prodig) that the release of the17-55 DX lens was being
put back from October to April and wanted to know when Capture 4 would be
available.
I e-mailed Nikon customer services and Nikon's PR manager. From the 'Group
Product Manager' I got the following reply:

"We apologise for the delay in the 17-55mm lens which we appreciate is very
frustrating for everybody and we have now updated our website to make this
information more prominent.
Concerning new products it is sometimes difficult to be precise as to the
actual date a new product will be available to Nikon UK to release to the
market.
Having checked the situation concerning Capture 4 we will release initial
stocks w/c 24/11/03 - for this reason I had advised Elaine to state from
December.
I would suggest you contact your dealer to make sure he has this item on
order for you."

I then received this from Customer Services

"The 17-55mm F2.8 G IF-ED is now Due out in Spring.
Nikon Capture 4 is currently already released but we do not have any in
stock at the moment and have not got a confirmed date of delivery."

I have replied to Nikon making my feelings clear. I doubt I will get a
reply.

Should I be surprised by Nikon expecting me to believe that a delay from
October to April is attributable to "it is sometimes difficult to be precise
as to the actual date a new product will be available"?.
Should I be surprised by Nikon expecting me (us) to believe, that even
though Capture 4 is released before the Product Manager says it is, that
they have no stocks anyway and they don't know when it will be available?

Is Canon the same? Is Olympus the same? Minolta? Fuji?

I am annoyed with myself for letting myself be bothered by this.

Yours

Paul
