I've always dragged the offending part of the action to the trash can 
and started recording again having clicked on the command just above 
where you'd like your amendment to be.  Works for me.

P.S. Am I the only person who'd like to be able to click (or double 
click) an Action name to launch it rather than select it and then find 
the tiny play button?  How about it, Russell?  I mentioned this to 
Russell Brown at MacExpo last week, but I don't think he was very 
inspired by the concept!
