Some observations. Panther CD burn works fine for cross-platform media needs (Windoze using CDs burned on the Mac). It does not work fine for cross-platform DVDs. If you burn a DVD using Panther, you'll only be able to read those DVDs using another Mac. If you're in a cross-platform environment, or your clients are on Windows, get Toast.
An alternative to Toast is Burnz:

Infinitely cheaper if all you want to do is burn CDs and DVDs. Supports cross-platform burning too. I had Toast, then I returned it and now use Burnz. I don't need all the bloat-ware in Toast, just the ability to burn. Well worth considering.

Jaguar CD and DVD burning works in exactly the same way. i have had problems with PCs opening images held within folders on the burnt CD and have simply worked around this by not putting images onto the Cd in folders. A little frustrating but not enough to make me find out what is causing it and fix the problem.
