Morning All

I recently received an offer on my AF-S 17-35mm Nikkor from an amateur
user which I think is reasonably more than I would expect to fetch
elsewhere. Although I'm not really in the market for a new lens, it did
get me thinking about getting a 17-55mm DX lens as a 'competitive
upgrade'.

Apart from the obvious focal length difference on the CCD, I was
wondering if anyone has had any experience of this new lens? I'm
particularly interested in the quality of the optics especially
regarding vignetting, distortion and fringing. I imagine users of this
lens would have a 17-35 or similar already so comments on how they
compare would be great.

I share access to a 12-24mm DX with a friend so am covered on the lower
end if I was to keep the 17-35. I don't want to miss the opportunity to
upgrade but I've been very pleased with my 17-35 and don't want to buy
the 17-55 on impulse.

Your comments are most appreciated.
