Apimac slideshow (http://www.apimac.com/) is an OS9 or OSX application that allows you to create slideshows as a 'standalone' for a Mac and/or a PC. I've only played with it so far, but it looks as though it'll work. I haven't tested it's output on a PC though.
Let us know how you get on. One tip I did read recently: None of these slideshow apps allow you to add multiple soundtracks, so you're left with silence or a looping song. But you can make a single soundtrack, containing the music or commentary you want, in iMovie (import tracks to desired length, export as QuickTime aiff) which you then import into the slideshow of your choice.
