But when you try to reproduce a art paint, then isn't something subjective.
The colours must be the most aprox. To the original pleasing or not.
I hate this kind of work because the "artist" never be satisfied with the
result. 
Today I chose to apply a linear curve and then make the adjustments in
Photoshop, with the painter deciding the final result. Then if she apply
more or less contrast/saturation is her decision. The problem was that she
is of this kind of people that never touch a computer, hate them and of
course don't trust in the digital technology, or at least apply to the art.
As an artist think that I was making art too but for me is the same to
reproduce a Dali or a child draw, only a technical issue.
When I have made this kind of work ( I really hate it) the artist use to
make a reinterpretation of his work,
- I like know , please a little bit more contrast
- but your picture doesn't have so saturated colours.
- Don't worry I like it.
This was the typical conversation in front the monitor.

This in particular was one of those that are all the time touching the
display. You could figure out.
