John, You can find out whether they are missing pixels or dust by enlarging the image till you can see individual pixels. Missing pixels are single missing pixels in any given location, dust is more than one pixel next to each other. I had my Olympus E10 sent back to Olympus by Jessops to have 'pixel mapping' program put in it when it started losing pixels. The later cameras E20, E1s have it already in, so maybe your D100 has 'pixel mapping' somewhere in its options.
