Hi Michael, Just to comfort you I have the exact same issue with PS CS opening / processing many files, also very similar machine specs, except 2.5Gb RAM (of which PS 7 & CS will only 'see' 1.7GB. Despite all the changes in PS CS, it can still only utilise 2Gb RAM on both PC and Mac. The PC is an OS limitation, but not the Mac).
Adobe cannot help at this moment and the only way I have got around it is to cut RAM allocation below 65% (if my memory serves me right). Very frustrating, please tell Adobe's Techs so it may get some attention.
