Hi all,
I have spent two days trying to install (from the support site) a Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 2 driver on a Umax Mac clone running System 9. I have contacted Minolta, and they say it's because I download and burn from a PC- Rubbish!
You are correct (about the rubbish from tech support). The format they have saved this in is a split archive HQX format which will be fine if you downloaded and burnt on a PC. What is funny about their download section is that they have the Mac and the Windows archives mixed up. Make sure you are only using the Macintosh versions.
I have downloaded the latest from Stuffit. All I get is ""Interface Lib--Get Component Rescource" could not be found".
Does Stuffit decompress the files correctly and build you a single installer file? I mean, does this error occur when you are trying to
expand the split archive by double- clicking on the one called "Ds112e.sit.1.hqx"? If yes, then Stuffit or the download is the
problem. Perhaps you are missing a section or accidently downloaded
one of the Windows versions instead.
Or does the error occur when you are trying to run the installer? The tech support site for the scanner claims that it will work with OS 8.6 and higher, so it *should* work in OS 9. However, I see that the tech specs for the computer require a Macintosh G3 with built-in USB, which that computer is not. You might try downloading the 1.0.2 version of the software instead (single file).
The third possibility for this error is when you are running the scanner software itself.
Also, make sure you are running the latest "CarbonLib" from Apple (free). The current version is 1.6.1. Many programs that are designed to run in both OS 9 and OS X natively require this extension. Even those programs that do not specifically require this run better when you have the latest version. You can get the latest version here:

Should I just give up on Macs? I cannot believe what awkward, obtuse heaps of comp. they are. XP would have told me what was wrong in plain American, which I could then translate!
Don't forget you are installing on a Macintosh clone that is approx. eight years old. There are bound to be a few bugs. At that time, Intel and AMD were only shipping 233 mhz processors and it could be just as difficult to install the scanner software on that computer.
