look at the archive (I think there's one) of the PanoTools group on Yahoo. Just mention iPIX on that list and tempers flare. Its a very hot topic. I don't follow it all that closely but supposedly there was a recent ruling that might invalidate IPIX's patent in Europe and thus allow legal use of other software solutions (there are many) to the type of pano that you want to do. There a numerous users on that list doing exactly what you describe. The authors of several software packages regularly contribute to that list including the guy that wrote PT-Mac... the package that Duncan McNeil suggested. I'm primarily a Mac user and have PT-Mac, but for building panos I typically switch to Windows. There are several pieces of software that put a user friendly face onto a Panotools engine. That's what PT-Mac does. But the Windows versions are FAR simpler to learn and use than PT-Mac. PT-Assembler is what I use. PT-Gui is another popular package.

I'm looking for an alternative to IPIX and their awful licensing deal to stitch 2x 183 deg images (Coolpix 5400 + E9 fisheye) to form spherical qtvrs.
