look at the archive (I think there's one) of the PanoTools group on
Yahoo. Just mention iPIX on that list and tempers flare. Its a very
hot topic. I don't follow it all that closely but supposedly there was
a recent ruling that might invalidate IPIX's patent in Europe and thus
allow legal use of other software solutions (there are many) to the
type of pano that you want to do. There a numerous users on that list
doing exactly what you describe. The authors of several software
packages regularly contribute to that list including the guy that wrote
PT-Mac... the package that Duncan McNeil suggested. I'm primarily a
Mac user and have PT-Mac, but for building panos I typically switch to
Windows. There are several pieces of software that put a user friendly
face onto a Panotools engine. That's what PT-Mac does. But the
Windows versions are FAR simpler to learn and use than PT-Mac.
PT-Assembler is what I use. PT-Gui is another popular package.
