Matt, I've just had a look at the images. The horizontal bands look just like the bands I got with my first 1Ds at the end of last year, though less pronounced. I could see mine clearly on the camera screen. I'd say it's a sensor problem. Mine was apparently the first that Canon had seen, and there was no fix other than a new sensor. I don't know if it was just had bad luck or if it's a signal of a deeper problem, but it took two more replacement sensors and a lot of head scratching to even get the camera to work again. In the end I got a new camera. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
