I'd really like to trust you on this one Thomas, however, I must say I disagree with you. It's a shame you don't have time right now to answer the points of my previous e-mail. And mind games is your description, not mine. This was merely intended to be an open discussion about the relationship between bit depth, dynamic range and exposure. No more than that! I say it again: When you make exposures with a digital back, photons or light energy, are converted to electrons or electrical energy, PROPORTIONATE to the intensity of the light! Therefore there IS a direct relationship to exposure in f-stops, as they operate in exactly the same way! My source is the founder of Leaf. > "Dynamic range is an Analogue limitation of the sensor. Maybe there's a physical limitation too in terms of how many electrons a pixel "bucket" can store or whether the A/D converter matches it? > However a wider > dynamic range requires more bits to describe it adequately, producing smooth > tonal gradations". Yes, a wider dynamic range requires more bits to describe. I couldn't agree more. > > If you want to know EXACTLY what's going on you should befriend an engineer > building digital backs and/or get hold of a book called "Colour engineering, > Achieving device independent colour". I really do prefer to take pictures rather than get bogged down in the rocket science behind it. So yes, let call it quits for now. Maybe we can resume this discussion off list so as not to bore others? Thanks for the book reference and best regards, David =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
