Oh dear, what have I started here?
If you too can't grasp the principle that photons are converted to electrons
proportionate to the intensity of light, then what can I say?
Obviously the number of electrons there will determine just how many f-stops
of light (also proportional) can be recorded.

Yes, but it couldn't record any intermediate tones and that is what we're
talking about - how many f-stops of our SUBJECT data we can capture.
