Does anyone have any idea why CS on my system takes such a long time to download & cache from a CD in the much hyped new File Browser? I've just timed getting twenty five 25MB files into the browser from a 52X reader and it's taken 6 minutes! During this time the whole programme remains locked!!! (W2K / dual processor / 1GB RAM / 2 SCSI scratch discs) Any time saving advice much welcomed ;-)
Dear Neil
It's always difficult trouble shooting someone else's hardware but assuming that you have ample space on all drives, all drives are de-fragmented, your paging file is on a fast/est own drive and have the minimum and maximum set to significantly mare than your amount of ram, that your scratch disk is also fast/est available and is on it's own dedicated drive all that I can suggest is that you check you have a 'base' level of 12Mb allocated to paging file on you OS drive.
Some time ago we tried to do without this base level on the OS drive and PS was most unhappy. You may have a drive on your system that is not performing correctly. We had an instability problem recently on one computer and tracked it down to an OS drive. Popped a new and much faster drive and the problem instantly went away!
Cheers
