I use my iPod - with the Belkin Media Reader. It is quite slow at copying, but it means i have a hard disk back up and can listen to music as well.
All in all a fine solution - possibly more expensive than some though.
There were some articles about using the iPod this way and on Digital Photography workflow on the O'Reilly site
