The Fuji software does do very nice raw conversions (especially for skin tones), but as you say it is very slow and 'clunky'.
Adobe's Raw converter gives an ok result but not quite as nice. But with a bit of tweaking it is now possible to get exactly the same result as the fuji software (possibly better!) and then save the settings. This can then be built into an action or droplet for fast conversions.
