Hi Shangara. >I didn't >say 30k equipment produces boring images Sorry , wasn't aimed at you personally.
> >We all know it's the photographer's imagination plus technical knowledge >that produce a quality photon graph. I just despair when people try to >defend expensive equipment as if it were necessary to produce interesting or >quality images Here I'm afraid we must differ . I love the D1s for what it is , but there is no way that it can compare with the Sinar 54 on some of the highly technical stuff , and for ultimate quality in terms of dynamic range , sharpness , lack of noise etc . I know this 'cos I'm running both systems side by side . This is not elitist , it's just a fact of life . >and deride the less expensive equipment, didn't deride ,see above, the D1s is a great piece of kit and definitely has a place in the marketplace. But do I sense a little pixel envy here (BG) ? > and the user by >implication. Now you've lost me. If you are using a D1s to shoot highly detailed bottle shots with shift perspective for 96 sheet backlit posters as a matter of choice and irrespective of the cost of the kit , then I would question your judgement when more suitable equipment is available. Personally , we get very demanding clients and have to provide the best solution possible in all circumstances . That's why we have the Canons in addition to the Sinars. > >I've been taking photos since 1979, one way or another, mostly on >35mm, 645 >and 6mpx Makes me feel ancient (Shooting commercially since 1969 on all formats from half frame to 10x8) However, the majority of my experience is with beta, 16mm and 35mm >motion image capture. Have to say, the same "snobiness" exists in the motion >picture industry as the stills industry: 35mm users look down on 16mm and >16mm users look down on beta and beta users look down on stills (just >kidding about the last!). It's true . I used to direct TV commercials and hated stills photographers on set , even though I was one ! >One shouldn't dismiss photography done on 35mm, a D1s or even a D10 as fun, >creative or lifestyle Don't recall using the word dismiss.Besides we have a D10 too. As you say ...horses for courses (see above) >Henri Cartier-Bresson, to mention just three, is laughing all the way >to the bank as his "crude" 35mm images sell by the millions! Haven't seen any of his drinks campaign still life shots . While trillions >of images shot on 6x6 languish in dusty drawers or have been consigned to >the furnace or buried by the council. Sorry , lost me again. > And the mission of the dSLR? To go boldly where no Sinar >dares! Take ours everywhere . Last time to the Maldives where they greatly enjoyed themselves and didn't even get dropped once :-) . The Canon did get a liitle damp though.
