Here is a round-up of the answers to the questions that were posted in the prodig-digest Thursday, April 15 2004 Volume 01 : Number 2058.
If the response was possibly of interest to the group as a whole, it is included below. If very user specific, we are getting back to the individual users.
Keep those questions coming!
Kind regards,

iView Beta process in general
We are in the process of beta-ing for both the Windows & Mac, so will be going through several iterations until the product launch.
If you had already downloaded a beta, you will automatically be alerted if there is a newer beta to demo available at www.iview-multimedia.com/beta/.
For those of you who hadn't seen my earlier post, and want to jump on the bandwagon, you can download a beta version of the software at the url above. We readily welcome your input!

Subject: [PRODIG]: iView and PDF... what's up was re: ICC Profile managed output using iView Multimedia ?
> Is there any similar function for the windows version of iView Media Pro? Anyway to tie it into ICM?
Answer: We are planning Windows ICM support for a future release.
>The beta under OS 10.3 mac WILL catalog PDF files and create an image of the first page... however none of the XMP metadata is viewable or appears to be transferred into iView Media Pro. Is this a "bug"?
Answer: We hope to add the ability to read XMP metadata in PDF files in a subsequent minor update. It's not as straightforward as reading XMP metadata in JPEGs and Photoshop files--chiefly because a PDF can contain several blocks of metadata, only one of which is the current one.
>You can't catalog PDF's (even those made from Photoshop 7 or CS) with iView Media Pro beta on OS9 mac, or WinXP. Is this just an oversight?
> The only current way to "lock" your metadata and image file from tampering and or misuse is to save it as a PDF file from Photoshop. If reopened
in Photoshop you can see the metadata by using "File >> File Info if the file is not "locked/secured" (and see it in the Filebrowser regardless) but if
cataloged (only under OSX), with iView Media Pro you can't see the meta data.
To catalog PDFs on Mac OS 9, you need to install Ghostscript:

We are hoping to add support for PDFs on Windows in a future release.
---------------------------- Subject: [PRODIG]: iView Beta
For one annoying bug - try doing a search (say on a keyword) in an Iview
catalog. Works fine. Now try pasting (not typing) a different search term
into the search dialog - it searches on the first string, not the pasted one.
David (and all): We do log every beta report we receive.
David, specifically, please note that you'll be receiving confirmation under separate cover with an identifying number, and will get back to you with a response once we have resolved the bug -- or need more info from you to fix it.
You probably know that the current beta has the disclosure triangle
function reversed in the info panel - when pointing right they are open,
when pointing down closed.
Answer: Fixed for 2.5b3, which was released last week.

Subject: [PRODIG] Iview. Is media version enough?
I don't have iView but hear a lot of good things about it. Is the pro version essential or does the media (cheaper)version do the job?
I'm likely to want to catalogue pix, do simple web pages for one off jobs and perhaps slide shows.
Answer: Well, this is very subjective: whatever functionality you need to do your job is what is best purchasing decision for you. Sometimes you find that a feature or functionality that once seemed like a luxury soon becomes a necessity.
To let you know, if you purchase either the Mac or PC version of the existing product now, and wish to upgrade once the next version launches in May, you will be able to make that purchase at a discount -- as opposed to having to purchase at the full price.
The above said, if you are a digital professional, or a high-end user with aspirations for becoming a professional and profiting from your work, you should probably forecast the quantity of images you will need to be managing, and purchase whichever version will allow you to suitably handle your anticipated volume and turnaround to market. Both Media and MediaPro products were designed to allow the digital professional to seamlessly integrate the tool into an established workflow -- rather than make you rethink how you do your work and tailor THAT to the limitations of the tool.

Subject: Re: [PRODIG] iView Multimedia and Kodak DCR files.
In brief, MediaPro does catalog Kodak DCR images.
For queries about specific camera models, please email us directly at [EMAIL PROTECTED] It would be most helpful if you could confirm the exact model and which version of MediaPro you are using. If it is a new model of camera then making an image or two available to us would help us confirm if it is supported.
