For those as yet unaware, I would just like to inform you that Firmware
version 5 and Photodesk version 4 are now posted on the Kodak site.

This latest upgrade is a very significant one because it introduces a new
dynamic method of dealing with radial chromatic abberation in lenses.(
Lens Optimisation)
With images from this firmware version onwards, you can dial out any
coloured area abberration in Photodesk. The Camera also carries in the
firmware, lens lists that you can add to your own personal list to use on
AUTO at capture. Also, you can make a custom setting and name your own
lens (perhaps using the data from the Photodesk setting) or simply go
through a simple proceedure to enter a new lens.

This is really great stuff and really works!

Please note that this cures RADIAL abberations resulting in a patchy
colouring overall. Other abberrations that leave coloured edges are best
dealt with by changing to a better or prime lens, or using the tools in
Photoshop CS.

Please upgrade your cameras ASAP along with the software.

Please also note that there are versions for 14n/nx, SLRn and SLRc.

Please also note that although the firmware is for the 14n and nx only the nx can use
the optimisation feature because it has the current sensor and
analogue board.

If you are unsure about upgrading firmware do not worry.
To do this, download to desktop, unzip to desktop, locate .BIN file ( THIS
IT IT - DO NOT BOITHER TO TRY TO OPEN)
Drag .BIN to card (BUT NOT INTO A FOLDER - JUST ON TO THE "WHITE BIT" this
is the "Root Directory" as mentioned in the instructionson the download
page)
Place in camera, go to Firmware, update, and OK.
When Loaded, repeat one more install from the card.( The cameras carry 2
versions for safety, if there is any glitch on startup it will revert to
the other version. If only one is upgraded it will say "earlier version of
firmware being used" if there is any startup glitch)

If you have not already done so please now take this opportunity to get
the extra "Custom Looks"
To do this go to the main camera info page and click on the appropriate
model at the bottom left, you can then click on "register your camera"
after entering your details you get the free download.
I mention this now becuse if you load it into a pc after Photodesk the
profiles will be picked up ok. If a Mac, they will not be put in the colur
sync library and you will need to locate them and drag them in.

So, the procedure with a PC is to unload any previous Photodesk, load the
Looks then load the latest Photodesk.
With a Mac, DO NOT TRASH ANY PREVIOUS VERSION or you will have elements
that wont trash. Load the looks then overload the Photodesk with the
latest version and the Looks will appear in the table.

I hope this has been of help.
