Didn't you tried to set contrast, saturation an even colour temps in order to get brighter colours.
I had found the default WB setting rarely relevant, moving the slider often enhance colour range. Keep in mind that C1 allows you to reach subtle colours instead of the Velvia look of the JPEG.
