Hi,
Thinking of putting my scanner into retirement and going 100% digital but I
have one question. Which is best Microdrive or CompactFlash?

Dear James,

I have been using two Microdrives for three years now, always on location, stuffed in rucksacks, taken abroad into high temperatures well 40 anyway - absolutely NO problems. They are fantastically cheap and have always been reliable. I always format in camera though rather than simply erase pix. I don't drop the drive itself onto table tops etc and I am endlessly connecting them to firewaire card readers in laptops and on the main desktop PC.

I know the write time of these drives is not as fast as the fastest Lexars etc (se Rob Galbraith's forums) but for location and landscape work this is simply NOT an issue at all. I have even used the drives for occasional weddings with absolutely zero problems or noticeable time loss. If you have unlimited funds I'd consider the fastest CF Cards but otherwise you may not go wrong with MDs.
