I am a fine art photographer and teacher.

I have spent five intensive years researching, experimenting and reading, to gain as much depth and understanding of digital photography as I had of traditional sliver. When I began my apprenticeship I had enough knowledge and confidence to begin teaching the practice and theory of digital photography, but now after digging far deeper than the surface I realise much of what I teach my students are gross simplifications, fairy tales or even just plain Adobe marketing material.

My only quest is to establish a consistent and precise connection between data and density. I am not even interested in issues concerning colour representation. The small piece of the digital world that I have sliced off for myself and attempted to conquer is simply about controlling dynamic range conversions, reproduction curves and luminosity, ie. the zone system.

I have many questions and problems I need help with and I am looking for people who, like myself, are trudging day to day through the same perplexing, often enigmatic, In the Looking Glass world of binary encoded, algorithmically processed imagery.

I like the title of this forum Image makers. It gives the impression that the emphasis here is on the image, and that all the conversations, debates and technical inquiries serve a greater purpose.

I am looking forward to exchanging views and experiences with you.
