Dear list,

I've also had some fringing with the Canon 17-40L zoom on the IDS, though obviously none apparent when using the same lens on the 10D. I found PSCS helped a great deal with the edge aberrations. However, the biggest concerns to me are CA all over the bl**dy image when shooting into bright light, most especially light bouncing off the sea and splashing rivers etc. The highlights have a very saturated red aberration which is actually WORSE in RAW format! I have tried unsuccessfully to remove the CA in CR but in order to cure the central symptoms, the edges become worse. The only workaround therefore is to have to make two TIFFS from the original RAW and then blend the two later. A real pain on multiple landscape images.

I am more than happy to trade in the 17-40 for a prime lens if this would really help but it's a shame that a lens supposedly designed for digital is SO poor on the 1DS in bright light. Any less dastic advice would be welcome.

Cheers,

Glyn
