I recently had exactly the same problem. Photodesk just could not read the DCR files although "iView" had absolutely no problem and was able to get me into view the images so I simply went ahead and converted them to TIFF using the Photoshop plug-in. Now it amazes me that the proprietary Kodak software could not read DCR files whilst a 3rd party programme had no problems whatsoever.

I was in a tearing hurry at the time so did not spend too much time trying to pin down the exact cause other than reformatting cards etc and re-checking them. However i did not notice that the "faulty" card did have IPTC tracker information loaded with the camera set to use that tracker but that due to a mistake all the fields were blank. My suspicion is that somehow this foxed Photodesk - maybe it was looking for some tags and as it could not find them it then proceeded to have a digital snit.

Have passed your comment into a a yellow God acolyte and will see if he has a notion.
