Hi Stephen

I use the portable solution when I cannot plug the Powerbook into the mains,
otherwise there is a very fast drain of the Powerbook battery and the camera
will not work when the battery is about 70% or less charge. I seem to
remember that the Phase One dealer recommending to always using the Portable
solution with the Powerbook, but I can't remember why (perhaps to make
another sale?). If you want to use the Powerbook where there is no mains,
then you will need to dig deep and buy the Portable Solution. If you have
access to a car battery you could always use an inverter to give mains
voltage.
