Dear Neil

Is this a widespread UK problem which does not apply in the rest of Europe?

I haven't printed in the UK for many years but my recent experience was not a good one. I detailed it in an earlier post.

I have now printed at several different print plants in Italy and Spain. At three of them I have specially asked them to run the first sheets at 'Standard' settings to see how much their standard varies from my proofs. In all instances, after running on gash paper, to even up the inks, for a couple of dozen sheets, the very first sheet has been very very close. Even a really run down press in Spain hit the mark in two sheets.

I have spoken to publishers who have similar experiences of standard printing in France, Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai. I have also spoken to several people who have had problems with UK printers.

Regards

Bob Croxford

whilst listening to the press / prepress guys there I learned that the
US seems to be quite a way ahead of the UK in the adoption of printing
to standards. Printing to standards is a great idea as a job can then
go on any (well set up) press with similar results. Of course it
commoditizes press services but it also means that make up time is
reduced and client expectations are met more often (or so I'm told).
