I have been asked by a friend, to photograph his valuable painting digitally. It is framed behind glass and cannot be removed.

I've done a lot of this for my local studies library. Copying old prints etc that have quite a curl on them and need a sheet of glass to flatten them.
I do it by having 2 lights (without softboxes or anything) at 45 degrees to the picture
I then have a large piece of black card parallel to the picture with a hole in it for the camera to shoot through. IF you don't you will see reflections in the picture.
