I am using the Kodak 14n and so far no problems but I am saving the RAW files as 8 bit tiffs and wonder if I should be saving as 16 bit files instead.
The raw file processors have become so good (PhotoDesk and Adobe Camera Raw) that what you get out of them rarely needs major further editing... only minor tweaks if anything. Its when you're doing severe editing after conversion; and you're trying to milk every last ounce of quality from the image; that you may need (want?) the 16 bit file. For other work stick to 8 bit and be happy working faster and more efficiently. Both formats are capable of rendering the same tonal range. The 16 bit file just has more definable steps along the way. Those extra steps can come in handy in the case of really severe edits. Search back a few months for a lengthy, though sometimes pointless discussion of this topic.
