actually, it's quite interesting. Go to the telegraph.co.uk where the statement from
Ilford is. They say that their monochrome sales have risen from 210m (2002) to 230m
(2003) - so one has to assume that there has to be a different reason for this
announcement.

We know that they have been pretty much giving away their inkjet paper for the last 6
months (since focus) so we have to assume that their sales haven't met their
expectations. They have also launched 3 new products all of which we (Nova side of
the business) sold heavily at Focus, then have had zero demand for since then. I
suspect (and this is only my personal opinion, not that of Permajet or Nova) that
Ilford Switzerland have tried a number of strategies to make their coating plant in
the UK work, but cannot do so, so are looking to sell it. Of course, if you tell a
potential purchaser that you can't make money out of digital (given that it is
obviously the way forwards) they won't be in the slightest bit interested........

Kind regards

Is it all over for black and white photography? Film sales have fallen
through the floor and one of the great names of monochrome film and paper -
Ilford - has gone into administration.
