Yes... a Win98 machine will talk via Ethernet to a WinXP machine.... but
sometimes setting up the network is a lot more difficult than it ought to
be.  You don't say how big the files are.  If it's a ton of really large
files, then Ethernet is the way I'd go.  If the Win98 machine has USB, and
the files are small, then I'd go with a USB "jump drive"... or "key drive"
or whatever you call it.
