Depends what your client means by "larger purposes" but a 50mb, RGB, 8-bit
TIFF could easily be printed to about 19x13in on a sheetfed printer on a
decent glossy paper; that's without upsizing further in the RIP! Probably
larger on a large format inkjet.

Why not just run off a 20x13.5in digital proof at your favourite printer?
Show the print to the AD and stand behind him in case he gashes his head
when he falls over or be ready to catch his jaw in case it drops to the
floor.

Makes me wonder why the the AD said what he said. What's his experience of
using or commissioning digital capture? Maybe he's had some bad experiences?
Worth quizzing him, I think.
