>The Kodakl 8500 for instance is calibratable and can be profiled and >prints in 85 seconds. Andy Scott, a client, loved the speed claims for the 8500. He is a property photographer and needs many single images printed fast. He bought an 8500 (June 03) and found that, on his system, the first print took about 3 minutes, he was told by the dealer that it's the second A4 print that fulfills the claim. The first takes a while to <render>. SO, are you talking about an A4 print in 85 seconds from pressing the print button - or once it's been rendered? This was back in June 03, some of these problems have, I hope, been solved by revisions. Martin? To make matters worse the printer seems to make alterations on an image by image basis, so different types of image are treated differently - as evidenced by printing a known image 3 x with differrent coloured borders. I've never managed to profile a printer that changes the images like this. If it doesn't behave in alinear manner, we can't predict behaviour accurately. Andy went back to his inkjet for individual prints, but still uses the 8500 when he needs a batch without the colour accuracy he sees from his Epson 1160 inkjet. However, anyone looking for an 8500 could pick up a bargain as he actually has a new, boxed one which came with a recently purchased Kodak camera - 500 quid, he said. Retail's 700 he thought.
