My advice, pack it in bubblewrap so you can drop it from 2 meters without
damage.
recommend soft long sports/wheely bag and wrap all your coat/clothes around it. Then you don't have to take your long thin tripod bag to the outsize bagagge desk. I tried using a cut down ski/sports tube, but gave up as it attracted too much attention (looks like missile launcher!). I went on easyjet the other day and found that your hand luggage can be as heavy as you like now (yippee!) as long as it's dimensionally correct
