He will post a file on his website, and send a print to the client - like a profile. He suggests 'making a profile' using the print and the file, so that you can use it to soft-proof. I am totally lost as to what he might mean...
Has anyone any idea of how this would work?

My guess is that he is suggesting you mess with your monitor until the file on screen matches the print he has sent you... This way (and assuming he has really good process control) all future jobs you put through that monitor will work for his setupbut of course FOR HIS SETUP ONLY. Kind of a closed loop setup and not very useful if you plan on using other printers..
