Hi gang.

I have been playing with ColorThink this morning, looking into the Canon 1Ds
input profiles that are installed with C1 Pro. I noticed that they reach
very far into the blue spectrum and overall the camera is capable to produce
colors far more satured than 'usual' working spaces such as AdobeRGB (if
judged from these input profiles at least).

So I did tests using C1 Pro and mapped the same file into a) AdobeRGB b)
ECI-RGB and c) BestRGB. Looking at the files and seperate channels in
Photoshop I find that the BestRGB version is giving the best histogram when
both AdobeRGB and ECI-RGB show some clipping at the dark end. Deep shadows
render cleaner and richer in subtle colors using BestRGB.

Here in Iceland ECI-RGB has been adviced (by printers mainly) as the
standard of choice over AdobeRGB since its D50 rather than D65, thus giving
better results for CMYK conversions. I have been using it as my standard
working space ever since I got C1 pro, but before that time I used AdobeRGB
(since photoshop RAW doesnt allow you to choose all working spaces
installed). Overall I have been happy with ECI-RGB and havent had any
problems delivering these files.

However based on my test BestRGB looks to be the best choice for my 1Ds
files. But I am reluctant taking it up as my standard workingspace since its
very 'non standard' and I fear issues when I deliver files. I could remap to
ECI-RGB but I am probably loosing info due rounding errors in the
calculation...

What are you guys using with C1 and 1Ds? Has anyone looked further into
this?

Best regards
Chris
