With all due respect (quite considerable, actually), it is a workaround IF
what you want to do is to export a processed image from ACR to a color space
that's not available in ACR. Adobe actually recommend it.

The move I mentioned may or may not damage the file - doesn't that depend on
the content? However, it's a different move to exporting in Adobe RGB and
then converting to ECI RGB.
