Saving files as Pro Photo RGB has many benefits.

It is the widest space available and wider than any output device can
handle. This means that files are shrunk to fit the working space of the
end user, resulting in good reproductions. Saving as say sRGB will result
in horrible stuff if that file is then opened and stretched out to Adobe
1998.

It also means that the best results will be gained in future times if an
archived file is used with the colour space of the day, which may well be
much wider than is currently used.
