Leo: I believe this was the intention from the start, as EXIF data is data written at the time of the digital capture. Some groups felt that allowing full editing of this data would mean that the information can't be trusted. That said, I know there are several different EXIF editors that are available, but I'd have to go dredge through the Controlled Vocabulary forum to find them. I find it easier to add the information needed to the IPTC/XMP metadata. If needed you can strip the EXIF data in a couple of different ways and then the end user can look in ITPC/XMP if they need to know things like date, location, photographer, colorspace, etc. Personally what I find a mystery is why there is no easy way to "lock- up" the IPTC/XMP metadata in a file. Currently there is nothing to stop a potential image thief from simply changing the authors name, or copyright information and using the image. If they are challenged they can say that "what metadata?" or "the metadata doesn't say that it's copyrighted." > How long until we have to accept Adobe, Canon, Nikon or other corporate > logos super-imposed over our pictures? Don't deride me: check out your TV > screens! I assume you are talking about visible watermarks? If so that's really a different subject as it has nothing to do with metadata (EXIF or IPTC/XMP) as metadata is invisible. When I send out images into the public area of the web I always include a visible watermark so don't know what the issue is that you are driving at. If you don't wish to reveal your EXIF to those downstream, that can be done by removing it entirely, so I guess I don't understand your concern. What am I missing?
