Too right Jack.

We've been pushing for ages for the concept of a 'digital spine' in the production workflow. It's would take the form of an agreed / endorsed framework that suits the entire industry with no rigid colourspaces set , allowing flexibility of supply. This of course requires a reasonable understanding of the process , and so far , that is where the stumbling block is . Everybody is looking for the Holy Grail of a 'Standard RGB' and 'Standard CMYK ' (!) as a universal answer to colour management , instead of looking at the whole picture. The myth that as 'creatives' we should avoid what is perceived as the anorak side of our industry still persists throughout the business. It's only when more of us start using colour management as a creative resource that the penny will drop.

I did a presentation at a conference yesterday along the same lines. Got to say though that there was an overwhelming feeling that ICC profiling was considered by the attendees to have two uses ...the first being that of a magic spell only to be cast by consultants , the second , probably more strongly felt , that it was an automation tool that would save even more beans for the counters :-).

Time to buy the boat ?.....
